Green Advantage!

Preparing your team for the race to net zero: Gain a lasting competitive advantage through an authentic commitment to sustainability.

The early movers who take decisive action to restructure their businesses for the transition to net zero can open up a long-term strategic advantage. Green pioneers will not only be able to build strong, purpose-driven brands to win over customers and talent, but will also be able to command higher valuations and attract more investment. But to reap these benefits, leaders cannot just talk the talk, they have to walk the walk. This requires clear, measurable actions and transparent communication. This keynote discusses how companies can transform their businesses to build a sustainable green advantage.

Sustainability as a competitive advantage

The shift to net zero has begun and the clock is ticking on the business models of the past. Consumers are increasingly sensitive to greenwashing, while regulatory changes present compliance challenges and the potential for fines. Meanwhile, a changing climate and more unpredictable weather patterns are causing supply-side shocks. The challenges are immense and time is short.

But the climate transition also presents a massive opportunity for leaders to create stronger, more competitive and resilient businesses anchored in a vision for sustainability that acts as a magnet for talent and investment.

In this keynote, I discuss how businesses can unite their teams behind a climate transformation that marries a compelling vision for the future with ambitious targets in the here and now.

What’s covered in this keynote?

  • the need to rethink traditional organizational structures in the era of liquid talent.
  • how recruiters can look beyond traditional channels to appeal to passive and open pool candidates.
  • the importance of cultural fit and what it means in practice when making hiring decisions.
  • moving company culture beyond PowerPoint and into the real world.
  • building an employer brand in the glasshouse of the modern internet.
Let’s talk

Why is sustainability important for business?

In an economic climate of financial and geopolitical uncertainty, it can be difficult to predict what happens next. But one is for certain: to combat the existential threat of climate change, the global economy will need to decarbonize. Over 80 countries, representing 75% of the world’s population, have now made net zero commitments, which will be essential to avoid climate tipping points.

Markets are adjusting their expectations to this reality. A study by CDP of 150 corporations recognized as climate pioneers for concrete actions on climate change, water and deforestation showed that they outperformed a reference index by 5.4% per year, even during major disruptions such as COVID.

When businesses take meaningful action on climate, it helps them attract talent and customers too. Data from a global IBM survey shows that 68% of employees are more likely to accept a position from companies with a proven track record on sustainability and that almost half of consumers are willing to pay a premium for sustainable and socially responsible products.
